Moneyfactscompare.co.uk celebrates 25 years of pioneering online money comparison

Norwich-based financial product comparison website Moneyfactscompare.co.uk* is celebrating its 25th birthday.

  • Moneyfactscompare.co.uk was launched in September 2000, originally as Moneyfacts.co.uk.
  • The website’s weekly newsletters, including Savers Friend and Weekend Moneyfacts, keep more than 200,000 subscribers up to date with the latest product changes, trends and financial news.
  • One of the United Kingdom’s original price comparison websites, to date it has helped an estimated 100 million consumers in the UK make better financial choices.

Moneyfactscompare.co.uk, one of the United Kingdom’s original price comparison websites is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month.

An early pioneer of online financial information, Moneyfacts launched a comparison website in 2000, putting the trusted, accurate data from its printed publications into a digital form. Launching an independent price comparison website to provide consumers with up-to-date and impartial financial information.

At the time the Bank of England Base Rate sat at 6% and the typical return savers could expect sat at around the same mark. An average house cost just over £82,000 with mortgage rates around 6.5% - numbers that seem almost unrecognisable compared to today’s financial climate.

Since then, moneyfactscompare.co.uk has helped an estimated 100 million consumers in the UK make better financial choices. Every month hundreds of thousands of consumers compare financial products, including savings, ISAs, mortgages, insurance, business deposits and commercial lending.

John Woods, Founder of Moneyfactscompare.co.uk, said: “I am enormously proud of the success Moneyfactscompare.co.uk has achieved since the turn of the millennium. It has helped millions of people make better financial decisions throughout the last 25 years, including some unprecedented times of turbulence, such as the 2008 financial crash, COVID-19 and the mortgage market fallout from the so-called mini-Budget in 2022.

“The continuing mission is as strong today as it was at the very beginning with the desire to make independent and impartial financial information accessible to all sectors of the population – arguably that is more important now than it has ever been.”

*Originally called Moneyfacts.co.uk, the site was rebranded to Moneyfactscompare.co.uk in March 2023.
